Since the fall is coming that means R&B music will become more prevalent at the same time. Bye bye to a lot of the summer anthems and bops and hello to the sweat melodies and crooning we all love to hear each year. This event was certainly the jump start for that movement. The party took place at SOB’s and was hosted by Mouse Jones, a prominent New York figure who’s rising up in the world of personalities. It featured multiple DJ’s and even a live performance by Sebastian Mikael. However, despite all of that one of the best parts of the entire night consistently was seeing Spice Adams on the screen while singing along to the music and drinking Dusse simultaneously. I can truly say it was a great night and one I will remember.
The event was so good that it was packe from wall to wall. With this much popularity, it is definitely something that should be done weekly throughout the fall and maybe into part of the winter months. R&B sometimes doesn't get the credit it deserves, but “A night of R&B” could fill that gap. It was a great sight to see black men and women having a great time while the oldies were going off. It shows how much these songs were a part of our childhood and still are to this day. A great venue would be Sony Hall which has a couple more seats and would allow more standing room for others. This party could be the next big thing to go from borough to borough spreading soothing sounds all across New York.
A large part of the success of events is how it’s run. The hosts job is very important, and they must be funny and entertaining, but also understanding of the audience at the same time. In this case Mouse was “curating the vibes” as most would say in a frenzy of dope songs. When you have all of that it’s a perfect recipe for everyone to enjoy themselves. This event inspired me so much, next day I made my 4th R&B Mix because it was a great night. It was a breath of fresh air and a different pace from the constant beat knocking we get with Hip-Hop. It’s time to whine down and make the best of the autumn season with more, more, and more R&B in NYC!!!
