Jacquees

Jacquees is an artist from Georgia who has been gradually gainning more fans over the years and has become popular over his songs. His most popular song would most likely be “Come Thru” (Feat. Rich Homie Quan) on his album 19. The song it’s self is a cover/remix which he has become known for along with being a great singer. Recently Jacquees dropped his latest mixtape Quemix 3, which comes on the heels of his debut album 4275, an album that was recieved well by critics and even fans.

Jacquees — 4275

The Georgia native is an artist under Cash Money which was founded and is run by Birdman. It is to be and not to be confused with Young Money, which wss founded run by Lil Wayne. That’s not the only time Wayne’s name comes into the conversation Jacquees is often said to be Lil Wayne’s replacement due to looks, but is much differnt in terms of artistry. 4275 is a great debut album because it tells his story properly. From the beginning track we here his mother talking about how she named him and his family speaking on Jacquees as he grew up through the years, it sets the tone well for the rest of the album. With Jacquees we’re getting a lot of sultry sounds and great instrumentation as well as a lot of “baby making music too”. His music can be very personal and in tracks like “23" we can see where his mind is at with him stating he’s too young for a relationship right now. In “All About Us” the singer mentions his mother having to sacrafice what she had for him and his siblings and how grateful he is for that. Whatever you think about Quees you can not deny his talent. To me the album is melancholy for the most part until you get to “All My Life” (Feat. Chris Brown) which is more up beat and shows how well the duo work together as they have teased music together in the past.

With all this talent however, Jacquees has been in the news lately for a remix he did over Ella Mai’s “Trip” single. Jacquees like many artist started out by doing covers, as a teenager he covered Chris Browns infamous “Yo (Excuse Me Miss). The controversy is not over him covering it but claims that he attempted to monetize it by posting it on all platforms aside from Soundcloud. The remix in some instances was getting more praise than the original track and that took away from some of the success/momentum the “Boo’d Up” artist had leading up to her debut album. Fans were cool until they realized that the song was taken down from all streaming services. Ella Mai has stated that she is a fan of Jacquees and did not take the song down but instead it was her label. DJ mustard posted a long message and stated why the song was taken down.

Hopefully instead of fued, in the future Jacquees and Ella Mai can collaborate on a song or even a project for the fans. It would be great to see the two work together and showcase their talents to the world.

In the meantime the two have projects out that are both great and everyone should be listening to and not trip over the current situation.
