We’re gonna start this year off with a bang and do things a bit different. In 2020 I’m bringing new artists to the forefront instead, it’s great to speak on established musicians but it’s important to give credit and show love to newer artists as well. Kaash Paige is the new artist of the month and is one that has so much potential. Since the first listen, I went back and listened three more times because it was so good. Whenever the first project you hear from an artist is as good as “Parked Car Convos” was it’s a sign of good things to come for them in the future. So with that let’s five into the artist herself and get a more of an understanding of them before we talk about the music.
Another reason why I love speaking about newer artists is because I get to learn about them as I go along. Kaash is from Dallas Texas, as we know Texas has a large amount of talented musicians. Beyonce, Solange, Bun B, Travis Scott and most recently Megan Thee Stallion. Kaash is in great company and although it seems as if she has risen through the ranks quite quickly, being featured in multiple publications such as, Genius, Djbooth, HipHopdx and more, that’s far from true Of course a lot of work has been put in, it’s just great to see it finally pay off for someone who has work hard to get to to where they are.
Kaash has been singing since she was a kid and it shows, she has a great vocal range that is heard on the album. Kaash’s father was also a musician which makes sense now and we can see where the talent comes from. As a producer he would work from home and was able to show Kaash some of the inner workings of creating songs so she would be able to do it herself. Inconsistency may have played a role in the process taking longer than expected but she’s finally here and ready to bring her talents to the world.
ALBUM REVIEW
Before we begin “Parked Car Convos” is the best title for a project I’ve heard in a while. Hearing her describe it in her interviews as well makes the title make sense even more. A lot of conversations happen in a vehicle, they range from funny, to sad, to simply not talking and just playing music which again is what everyone should be doing with this album. Also if you prefer going on drives like myself and just listen to music, this album is perfect for that too. The first thing that you will recognize about this album is that it is only eight songs so it is an easy listen although I do wish it was longer, it is just a glimpse of Kaash’s talent.
Track 1: sounds more like a ballad than any other song on the album. It starts off with her harmonizing with her vocals as they are mixed on the track. Kaash is speaking of a heartbreak that she has had, hence the title of the track “Heartbreaker”. When love is involved there is usually hurt that comes with it too and this is exactly it. The vocals are pretty repetitive but it’s nice to hear real instruments being played over her singing. It’s something different from a lot of newer R&B singers today.
Track 2: In the context of having conversations in the car with someone that you’re dealing with a lot of people can feel the second track. Time being wasted is another effect of working your way into being in a relationship with a person. Kaash is expressing her feelings for the person she’s dealing with in an attempt to further their status but the feeling is not mutual which leads to songs like “WMT” being made.
Track 3: Going for a drive is one of the best ways to get to know someone and relax at the same time. Listening to music with the one you love can be therapeutic and a great way to pass the time. Just like the previous song Kaash is adamant about this person, going as far as saying that the person is hers and only hers. Paige is going through his city with or without him that’s how deep her love is for this person.
Track 4: When you love someone you ay have to put up with much more than you would with just a regular person or friend. In this song Kaash seems to be helping her friend with his other love interests. He calls her with all his problems and because she has feelings for him and is reliable she helps out as much as she can. In the song it seems as if these two had a past and they till talk. She still has feelings for him but he’s dealing with other women, now that he’s getting hurt he’s getting a taste oh his own medicine.
Track 5: “Options” can be looked at as a rebuttal to “Fake Friends”. After dealing with a person who isn’t feeling you or isn’t faithful to you there comes a point where you must decide what to do. Kaash has decided to pursue different options. Other people have been hitting Kaash up and instead of continuing to care for a person who clearly doesn’t respect what they have/had she will take the other road and might not cruise past his house anymore.
Track 6: Kaash can be a homebody as much as she loves to go out. A lot of us like time to ourselves and just chill. This song is for when you’re tired of dealing with people and all the emotions that are out there. People be asking you to link but you want to watch movies and Youtube, maybe play video games and be in the comfort of your own house. Times like this are a must for your own sanity and everyone must clear their heads from time to time.
Track 7: Sometimes we need to leave the place that we’re from to know get a better look at the situation and to look at the bigger picture as well. Dallas has done a lot to Kaash and being in that environment is no longer conducive to her mental state. While she’s gone she plans to stunt on the person who hurt her, she wants them to feel the pain she put them through. At the same time she wants them to know that she loves them and it hurts her to do all this. Even if she’s blocked her friends are helping her figure out what he’s doing and she knows everything that’s going on. She knows his new girl, where she’s from and what she’s like without doing the work herself. One can truly see that leaving Dallas is the best move.
Track 8: This is currently Kaash’s biggest song, even receiving a feature from 6Lack recently. Even after all the things Kaash and the person she’s dealing with have gone through she still has feelings for him. This album was a perfect depiction of some relationships and how they fluctuate. There are ups and downs, some worse than others but we generally feel like the person that is meant to be ours will always show up. Sometimes we are blind to what we should have and sometimes we are adamant about what we want and who we want. All of that gets mixed in with life and the next choice is always the hardest do we continue to hurt or move on and find someone better for us. Only we can decide for ourselves no one else.

All though all the songs to me stand out my girl and I love “WMT” because it’s so catchy and the chorus rings true in any relationship. This album was a great debut for Kaash and she’s on a great path to become a huge star as she has stated herself. Can’t to see her next move as she rises to the top!
