On the heels of his latest mixtape we see a transformed individual Kevin Gates once again produce a great body of work with the 3rd on installment of the Luca Brasi series, Luca Brasi 3. As a listener of Gates since “By Any Means”, the same thing that attracted me to his music is the same thing that attracted me to Joe Budden’s music as well, REALNESS. In his records there’s a sense of realness that lies in the lyrics, and even when he speaks in public or during interviews he speaks with realness and a truth that others normally don’t. I will get to his most recent interview with Sway Calloway later in this article.
Luca Brasi 3 dropped on September 28th and sold 71K units in the first week. The Bread Winner Association rapper gave us an introspective 18 track album with him repeatedly toting God as being the only on he fears, himself not being perfect but trying his hardest, mixed with raw raps that make you feel powerful. Gates has worked hard to get to the position he is at while being incarcerated during “By Any Means” he is here in full effect for “Luca Brasi 3” and we can feel it, whether it’s seeing his stage presence or having his family be apart of it too and so supportive we see him reaching another level. When you listen to Luca Brasi 3 expect to hear a lot of questioning of character which he is big on, love for those closest to him in his life, and what sounds like a melodic grimy version of rap that depicts a young man who struggled to get what he has today. If you’re a longtime fan of Kevin you will also know that he is no stranger to showing affection to his wife in his explicit lyrics on songs like “Me Too”.
As a fan of the Louisiana artist it’s just great to see him get the love that he deserves for his music and for being the real person that he is. He may say things that can be considered controversial to others but it comes from a place of wanting to better himself and those around him.

If you need anymore assurance of why you should listen to Kevin Gates and what he is about he recently did a 4 part sit down with Sway and delved into some of the controversy over the years. We learn many facts about Kevin whether it’s that he eats once a day, believes we change form when we pass away (R.I.P. Mac Miller), or has a code of conduct with the people on his team and to check each other hey say “Respect Yourself”, it’s clear that he is powerful in his actions and words. The quote that stood out the most to me was “You have to replace negative habits with positive habits” and if he practices what he preaches Gates will reach a level he hasn’t seen before.
